2017 Assessment Notices Mailed

The Oglala Lakota County Director of Equalization (DOE) has mailed the assessment notices for 2017.  Notices were mailed March 1st and should be received within the week.  If you do not receive your assessment notice please contact their office at 605-745-5136.

Items to check on your assessment notice:

  1. Property Class: all properties are classed as Agricultural (AG), Non-Agricultural (NA), or Owner Occupied (OO).
  2. Assessment Value: this is the value that the DOE believes you could sell this property for on the open market.
  3. Legal Description: if a new plat was filed for a property before November of 2016 check to see that the legal description was update.

If there are issues with any of the above or issues involving owner name or contact information please contact the DOE office before April 4th.

The value listed on your 2017 assessment notice will be used to compute your tax bill that will be delivered in January of 2018. Remember, it is not possible to appeal your taxes, if your assessed value is too high you must appeal NOW to get your taxes lowered for 2018.

Winter Storm Closure – Courthouse

Circuit Court in Hot Springs was cancelled for Friday, December 16th due to the winter storm. The Clerk of Courts office and other state offices will be closing at noon.  The Fall River County Offices will also be closing at noon; this includes the treasurer, register of deeds, auditor, and director of equalization.

Commissioner – Special Meeting

A special meeting of the Oglala Lakota County Commission will take place on Tuesday, October 25th to discuss the early vote site and alternative locations. Agenda

Election and Voter Registration Announcements

Election Season has begun in Fall River and Oglala Lakota County. Early Voting began on September 23 and will continue through November 7th every day the Courthouse is open. The Last Day to Register to vote for this election is October 24, 2016 by 5 pm. Make sure you’re registered so you can support your candidates and causes!

Early Voting for Fall River County will be held at the Auditor’s office in the Courthouse in Hot Springs, Early Voting for Oglala Lakota will be held at the SuAnne Big Crow Center in Pine Ridge or at the Fall River County Courthouse Auditor’s Office.  See online election map for information on polling places, early voting locations, and voting precincts.
